Dr. Lawson earned his B. S. degree in Chemistry from Mississippi College in 1990. He completed additional studies in English literature through the University of London, England/Mississippi College overseas study program. While at Mississippi College he received the Perry Academic Award for Chemistry and served as an officer in Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society. He completed requirements for his M.D. degree at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. He concluded his training with a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Mississippi as well.
Dr. Lawson currently holds board certification in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
A native of Florence, Mississippi, Dr. Lawson currently resides in Madison with his wife, Patricia, and their four children.
