The JHF has already been instrumental in developing and assisting in community outreach programs that have been beneficial to our cardiovascular health.

Heartbeats of Jackson

Heart Beats of Jackson is an annual cardiovascular health screening hosted by the Jackson Heart Foundation and the
Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership along with local community hospitals.

In the past, over 400 people have received a complimentary screening at this event. Screenings include EKG’s, ABI’s, an echocardiogram, and a lipid panel. Nutrition and healthy living workshops are also available for participants. The medical staff involved in performing the screenings includes approximately 35 cardiologists and approximately 100 nurses, med techs, lab techs, and other personnel. This event has been extremely successful and has received much support from the community.

Jackson Heart Foundation

The foundation is also working alongside the Junior League of Jackson on its Kids in the Kitchen program, promoting good nutrition and a healthy, active lifestyle for the after-school children at Mission First. This program has put a healthy twist on teaching the four food groups, not only to the children, but also to their parents and caregivers. It involves hands-on healthy cooking demos along with educational classes on the importance of healthy nutrition and exercise. Families receive educational materials, exercise equipment, and even cooking tools such as smoothie blenders and heart-healthy cookbooks. By educating our children early on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity, we are breaking the cycle of childhood obesity.
